Hello, I'm Alisa!
I am a qualified canine massage therapist registered with AHPR travelling all over the Wantage, Oxfordshire area and surrounding villages.
If you are looking for a specialist in remedial or therapeutic massage to come to you and help improve your dog's comfort and overall wellbeing, get in touch.
"I would absolutely recommend Supple Pups. He struggles to get up and walking is difficult for him. However, after massage he is much more mobile and can walk more easily.
Very happy with results!"
"He's a slow moving, sleepy boy, but I didn't realise just how much this was his discomfort rather than just age related.
After Alisa treated him, the improvement was instant! I don't think he even realised he was being treated because he was very calm.
I have a happy little dog now, we're both grateful."
"He has reacted very positively and is really full of beans this evening!"
He is noticeably much more perky and moving and walking a lot more freely.
He also had a much more settled night - very encouraging and we are very sure your visit helped him a lot!
I was inspired to start Supple Pups Therapy after seeing the benefits firsthand of canine massage when my beloved dog Jasper needed treatment following a terminal diagnosis. I wanted to keep him as comfortable as possible, for as long as possible.
Animals have always been a big part of my life, from dogs and cats, to chickens and horses. I even trained my own pony, Stanley, in dressage; and while massage is standard practice in the equestrian field, it is far less common when it comes to our companion animals. I believe that as our pets give so much to us, I want to give them the best quality of life possible in return.
As well as my Canine Massage Therapy diploma, I have a Level 4 qualification in Canine First Aid & Health Checks and have further professional training in hospice, palliative and oncology massage. Additionally I know advanced specialist soft tissue therapy, myofascial, sports massage and neurovascular techniques.
As a massage therapist registered with the Animal Health Professionals Register, I check posture, movement and then palpate to build up a picture of your dog's overall musculoskeletal health before deciding on any physical treatment.
The massage therapy and any maintenance treatment plan is always tailored to your dog's specific needs and tolerances. I use a variety of techniques which can address fascial restrictions and scarring, muscle tightness, soreness and joint stiffness, and nerve restriction using the most up to date techniques, resulting in a more supple pup!
I have very good connections with hydrotherapists and chiropractors in the area and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to always ensure you get the best support for your dog.
The first step is to contact me to book an appointment and assess your dog's needs.
Whether your goal is to improve comfort levels for an aging dog or one with a chronic condition, or to enhance athletic performance in a working or sporting dog, I would love to hear from you.
If your dog already has discomfort, then two or three sessions are usually needed to get them comfortable, followed by monthly maintenance treatments to keep them at their best.
Old dogs really benefit from massage, it restores mobility and circulation which allows the dog to better heal themselves. Many pet guardians find that their old dogs revert back to their young selves and start causing mischief after a few sessions!
At home there are some changes you can make to ensure that your friend is as comfortable as possible:
Keep them at a correct weight - most dogs are overweight and this causes huge stress on their joints and internal organs. Many dogs lose weight naturally when they have massage treatment and are better able to exercise.
Feed a good quality diet - Having the best nutrition allows your dog to stay healthier.
Provide a warm, supportive bed - Old joints can stiffen up overnight, a good bed will help keep them aligned as they sleep and prevent bed sores. Like us dogs feel the cold more as they age so a warm environment is crucial.
Ensure they walk on suitable surfaces - Hard floors are slippery and even small slips can damage your dog's joints. Carpeted floors or grippy mats will help prevent this.
Keep up with grooming - Long claws affect the alignment of your dog's paws and have a knock on effect on the whole body. Furry pads can make surfaces even more slippery and matted hair is uncomfortable and can lead to sores.
Play appropriate games - Scent games are low impact, provide enrichment and keep aging brains active and engaged.
Provide protection from the elements - When they are out, older dogs may benefit from a jumper or coat (if tolerated) to keep joints warm. They have less tolerance for temperature extremes so if the weather's bad, it might be best to stay home.
Enjoy your time together - Make time to do whatever it is that your dog loves best!
My consultation fee is always £35 for anyone within 10 miles of Wantage. As massage is excellent for the health and wellbeing of your dog, many insurers will cover massage therapy.
My priority is to come to you and perform the treatment where your dog is most comfortable. Alternatively, I have access to a hired room in East Hanney for an extra £15.
A session is one hour and includes gait assessment, palpation and massage treatment.
